Now after more than 20 years of naval service he is reported a prisoner of the Japanese.
Scuttled Their Ship
He was with the brave crew at Manila that scuttled their ship, the U.S.S. Canopus, rather than surrender it to the Japanese. It is believed that he was captured soon after this incident.
For one year he was listed as missing in action. It was only this month that his status was changed to prisoner.
